History of Paint Racing

Paint Racing dates back as far as the late 1940’s. At that time, the beautiful Paint race horse proved itself by defeating some of the great Quarter Horses on the American bush tracks. Those winning Paints set the standard for today’s outstanding runners. Paints raced long before the sport was recognized by the APHA in 1966. During the past years, Paint Racing has shown tremendous growth and momentum, and Paint Horses have continued to prove their racing ability on tracks throughout the United States and Canada.

About Us

The horse operation, Painted Thoroughbreds, is owned and operated by Dean and Glenda Melnic. Our ranch is located just 1 mile south of the “Hoop and Holler Bend” in Portage la Prairie, Manitoba, Canada. The area's rich fertile soil is home to many vegetable growers and is also renowned for being the strawberry u-pick capital of the world. Our ranch specializes in breeding and raising Paints for racing and sport for all disciplines. Our main objective is to join the present and future of Paints and Paint Racing in Canada.

At Painted Thoroughbreds our mission and passion is to bring to life champion paint horses through selective breeding... being second isn’t good enough! We have thoroughly researched the proper bloodlines for our herd and believe that “Breeding the Best to the Best” is the very apt truism when it comes to breeding horses. These beautiful horses not only look good, but have the potential to be your next best friend or champion for whatever discipline you may choose. Why not add some color in your life. With being in the early development stage of building our herds bloodlines, our selection is limited at the moment. Be sure to return in the spring for pictures of the exciting arrival of our new foals.
